Vote on rebranding to Leicester Gazette and expansion
Should we change our name, and expand into Leicestershire?
Plus: our new events calendar, the Local Democracy Reporting Service, and more
In this month’s issue of The Newsroom 📨
On 14 March, The Gazette held its annual general meeting at Soft Touch Arts, New Walk, which was an overwhelming success. Forty people attended the event, including 20 members who helped us celebrate our success over the past year and contributed their ideas.
One of the key takeaways from our conversation on The Gazette’s editorial direction was the need for more positive news in the community and a greater need for connecting local people and groups. As a result, we have created an events calendar, which is free for the community to access; skip to the last section to find out more!
During the evening, our members could vote on our Ethical Fundraising Policy and a Rule change implementing organisational members. After a fantastic discussion, both policies were passed unanimously. The policies are due to be implemented by the end of Spring, and the minutes from the AGM will be available on the website in the coming weeks.
In celebration of our first year of publication, we ran a 50% discount campaign in the run-up to the event, which saw 15 people join as paid members. To put it into perspective, in our first year, we raised over £10,000 and welcomed over 80 members to The Gazette! We want to take the opportunity to thank all of our members for their support at such a crucial time for The Gazette. Thank you, and we hope you stay with us on this exciting journey.
